Overview
A plastic shredder, or granulator, uses a combination of static and rotating blades to cut down plastic waste into small flakes or chips ready for further recycling.
These chips can then be gently heated and melted into new sheets of plastic, which can be fabricated or laser cut into new objects such as jewellery or coasters. The chips can also be injection moulded into off the shelf or bespoke moulds to create more 3D shapes.
Shredded plastic can have different sizes (small, medium, large) depending on the mesh filter used in the machine, and can be sorted by colours to create different effects and finishes.
You should only mix colours that are the same type of plastic however, to ensure they have the same melting point and don’t risk burning when heated and giving off toxic fumes.
