This guide will cover how to set up your file in Inkscape, a free, open source, vector-based software program, which you can use anywhere.
Here at the Factory we have Adobe Illustrator installed on all our Mac computers. The process for setting up files in Illustrator is fairly similar. If you need to turn an image into a vector you can follow the Image Trace worksheet, found in the illustrator course here on the learning portal.
Vector designs are made up of a series of points that create a sort of ‘dot-to-dot’ of your shape or design, which can be followed by the machine. These designs can be scaled up or down without losing quality, unlike photo images, and can be freely edited or customised.
Use the Inkscape worksheets or video tutorials to create your embroidery design.
